The day Ramos told Asensio …

Marco Asensio will remember the day he made his Real Madrid debut for the rest of his life, including the fact that he slept in the morning of the game.

As Los Blancos prepared to take on Sevilla in the 2016 UEFA Super Cup, the Mallorca-born player had just been told off by captain Sergio Ramos for sleeping in and he feared his chance to start was gone.

“I slept in the day of the UEFA Super Cup against Sevilla and I thought ‘I’m not going to play now’,” he recalled in an appearance on Cadena Cope’s ‘El Partidazo’ radio show.

“Then Sergio Ramos told me ‘you’re a disaster, I’m sure the coach will take you out of the lineup’.”

Yet Zinedine Zidane started Asensio anyway and he repaid his coach’s faith in him by scoring a wonder strike after just 21 minutes.
